Final Dino Dig Program for the 2017/2018 School Year

The Lauer Foundation's final program for the 2017/2018 school year was a return to our roots for Dino Dig (20+ years!).  We were especially touched to see high school graduates return who had taken our class when they were young!

We presented a short program about what fossils are, how they are formed, and how paleontologists use critical thinking skills to understand clues to help identify and understand a variety of specimens.

We shared examples from our own collection, some that they were able to pass around for closer hands-on experience. Each student received a free dinosaur excavation kit that we started in class, as well as a couple of real fossils to start their own fossil collection -- Thank you Dr. Jay Goldberg! The kids loved them.  (Apologies for the dust at home)

We could not have done the program without the help and coordination of our awesome parent helpers.  Thank you Jeff Hasbrouck, Matt and Jamie Szafransk.
