Lauer Foundation returns to the Solnhofen area of Germany

Bruce and Rene on behalf of the Lauer Foundation made a two and a half week trip to southern Germany to visit museums and their curators, quarries, collectors as well as many friends of the Foundation.  The purpose of the trip was to renew relationships, and to see what the reaction in Germany was to the Field Museum’s announcement of their purchase of an Archaeopteryx.

We met with the curators and leaders of the major museums in the area.  We met with Dr. Martin Ebert for a short field trip and then met his wife the former head of the Jura Museum, Dr. Martina Kölbl-Ebert.  We visited Dr. Christina Ifrim at the Jura Museum in Eichstätt, we had a nice meeting with Dr. Oliver Rauhut from Munich and the Bavarian State Collections, we visited Dr. Günter Schweigert at the State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart.  We also visited the Bürgermeister-Müller Museum in Solnhofen, The Natural History Museum in Bamberg, Urwelt Museum in Bayreuth and the Dinosaur Park near Denkendorf.      .

We visited our friend Roland Pöschl at his quarry near Mühlheim which is the home of “Elvis” Petrodactyle. Roland’s quarry continues to produce amazing new fossils.  We met one of our strongest supporters, Dr. Helmut Tischlinger and had the privilege to see his outstanding collection.  We also visited Dr. Freddie Spindler and his family one of the co-authors on the Elvis paper.

Finally we visited many friends, Stefan Selzer, a good friend and one of the best preparers, Udo Resch another good friend, collector and excellent preparer and Stefan Schäfer another friend and collector.

The trip was successful and it was good to reconnect with everyone.
